Meet Limitless GOTR Girl, Kaylee!

Meet Limitless GOTR Girl, Kaylee!

Kaylee is a girl who is going places. She’s persistent, determined, and doesn’t let anything stop her from achieving her goals. Kaylee was one of the first girls to sign up for Girls on the Run at Cascade Middle School and quickly became a fearless leader and unwavering friend to other girls on her team. Kaylee’s strength was put to the test this past year when she was unexpectedly diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Her mother shared that her medical team was amazed at her stamina and perseverance, demonstrated by playing soccer competitively for both her premier and middle school team days prior to being diagnosed.

We could not be more thrilled to report that Kaylee is officially cancer-free and doing super well! Being the amazing leader and teammate she is, Kaylee cheered on and helped hand out medals to her fellow GOTR teammates at the 2018 QFC Girls on the Run 5K.

Please join us in congratulating Kaylee on not only being nominated as a Limitless girl this season, but kicking cancer to the curb!

Meet Fundraising Super Star & Limitless Girl, Amia!

Meet Fundraising Super Star & Limitless Girl, Amia!

Meet Amia, a creative and hardworking GOTR girl from our Snoqualmie Elementary School team! Amia is a student at North Bend Elementary, which doesn’t (yet!) have a GOTR team, but that didn’t deter her from participating this season. She commuted to SES twice a week to take part in the Girls on the Run program and not only made new friends, but in the words of her coach, “became a key member of our tribe”!

Amia is also passionate about making Girls on the Run accessible to more girls in King County. As part of our scholarship drive campaign, Amia came up with a plan to create a fun culinary experience for friends and family while educating them about Girls on the Run. For a suggested $100 donation, Amia shopped, cooked for, and served dinner to her “customers” and gave an informational talk about Girls on the Run.

This ingenious and well-executed idea led Amia to raise $1,000 to support FULL scholarships for 5 girls next season – way to go, Amia!

We are so grateful for Amia’s Limitless creativity, generosity, and resourcefulness!

June Girl & Guy Heroes

June Girl & Guy Heroes

The F5 Twisters!

Our June Girl & Guy Heroes are members of one of Girls on the Run’s inspirational and philanthropic corporate SoleMates team, the F5 Twisters! These 12 teammates are representing F5 while training for a 200 mile relay race AND raising funds to support scholarships for next season’s Girls on the Run participants!

F5’s Seattle-based Northwest Passage Ragnar Relay team, the F5 Twisters, initially came together in October 2017 with a mission to build a culture of teamwork and collaboration within their department. Wanting to put more meaningful intention behind their teambuilding activity, they reached out to Girls on the Run of Puget Sound and committed to raising $12,000 to support scholarships for 60 program participants (4 full teams!) next spring. With nearly three-quarters of their fundraising goal achieved, F5 Twisters is proud to support F5’s endeavors in being advocates for diversity & inclusion and champions of community service.

The F5 Twisters have definitely put the FUN in fundraising this year, showing great creativity with events that truly engaged their company and community in their philanthropic efforts. Early this year, they hosted an Oscars themed fundraiser to kick off their donation campaign.

They recently followed up with a “Wine Friday” event that both educated fellow F5 employees about Girls on the Run and was also highly entertaining!

F5 has a long-standing commitment to supporting important causes in Seattle. Through programs like Girls on the Run and corporate matching, the work F5 and its employees have done over the years has had lasting impact on the community.

The F5 Twisters will take on the 200 mile Ragnar Northwest Passages relay race in July. Please join us in wishing them well on their race and giving them a BIG energy award for their work to make Girls on the Run accessible for all girls in our community! Meet Limitless GOTR Girl, Mallahna

Meet Limitless GOTR Girl, Mallahna

Meet Mallahna, an inspirational Girls on the Run participant from Madrona Elementary in SeaTac! Mallahna’s coach, Hannah Eastman, shared the following about her team spirit, dedication to goals, and encouraging attitude:

Week after week, Mallahna has set higher lap goals for herself and has really pushed herself to increase her physical prowess. Simultaneously, Mallahna has also become a leader in our weekly discussions during our team time. Mallahna has been motivating, encouraging, and a great friend to both of our teams of girls. Throughout every practice, Mallahna can be seen circling back to encourage and motivate girls that need an extra boost, with a great big smile on her face. Mallahna truly has embodied star power this season, and we as coaches could not be prouder!

Mallahna truly embodies the Girls on the Run core values of expressing joy, optimism and gratitude through our words, thoughts and actions and nurturing our physical, emotional and spiritual health. We are grateful for her Limitless joy and empowerment of her team throughout the season!

May Girl Hero

GOTR 5K Title Sponsor and Healthy Living Champion, QFC!

As the QFC Girls on the Run 5k fast approaches on May 20th, we are thrilled to honor our generous and collaborative Girls on the Run 5k title sponsor, QFC, as our Girl Hero!

QFC became the presenting sponsor of the Girls on the Run 5k in 2011 and has increased their contributions and support of our program and race each year. Since the beginning of our partnership, QFC has provided enough scholarship support to fully fund almost 44 complete teams – 655 girls! In addition to their financial support, QFC generously provides in-kind donations of nutritious food for our 5K participants, signs to cheer participants along the course, gift cards for snacks at our program sites, school signs and banners for our 5k, printing and floral support for our auction events, and so much more. QFC employees also volunteer their time as coaches, running buddies, and event support.

QFC’s title sponsorship has not only allowed us to expand our programming to reach more girls, schools, and communities, but has also enabled us to take our 5k to the next level and make the event a truly transformative experience for all our girls, families, volunteers, and community members. We are so grateful for the many ways in which QFC positively impacts our organization and community. Thank you, QFC, for championing healthy living for our girls and families!

April’s Girl Heroes

April’s Girl Heroes

Ty Whitten, Chet James and the Awesome Possum

Super Jock ‘n Jill Team!

This month’s Girl Heroes are Super Jock ‘n Jill’s General Store Manager Ty Whitten, Owner Chet James and the entire Super Jock ‘n Jill Team! Super Jock ‘n Jill has been a Girls on the Run supporter for years, marketing our 5K in their store front windows, hosting our race packet pickup at their Greenlake location, and supporting us in many other ways.

This year, with the help of Store Manager Ty Whitten, Super Jock ‘n Jill generously donated running shoes for GOTR program participants in need. Having proper footwear is essential in ensuring girls’ safety and success throughout the season and we are incredibly grateful to Jock ‘n Jill for this incredible gift to our program participants. But their generosity doesn’t end there! This season, Super Jock ‘n Jill will also host our SoleMates Team kickoff party. Our SoleMates Charity Running Team is comprised of athletes who pursue individual fitness goals, while raising funds to support the growth and sustainability of Girls on the Run. This season will be our largest SoleMates season yet and we could not be more excited to launch the start of training at Jock ‘n Jill!

Do you know of an awesome business in the area like Jock ‘n Jill that may be interested in sponsoring Girls on the Run? If so, we’d love to connect with them! Email to suggest a business, make a connection or learn more about our sponsorship packages.

Please join us in congratulating our April Girl Heroes, Super Jock ‘n Jill! Ty and other members of the Super Jock ‘n Jill team will be at the QFC Girls on the Run 5K this May. Be sure to stop by and thank them for supporting our girls and equipping them with the footwear necessary to cross the 5K finish line!

March Girl Hero

March Girl Hero

Our March Hero is Superstar Supporter and

Board Member, Sherry Williams!

Sherry was first introduced to Girls on the Run in 2010 in her role as Community Affairs Director for Swedish Medical Center. After learning more about the Girls on the Run curriculum and our focus on providing access to all girls in King County, Sherry helped build a partnership between GOTR and Swedish to support scholarships for girls, beginning in the Tukwila and Highline Districts and expanding to provide financial assistance to girls throughout the region. To date, thanks to our partnership with Swedish Medical Center, we have been able to offer over 400 girls full scholarships (that’s 26 teams!).

After several years providing Girls on the Run support from the alignment with Swedish, Sherry joined our Board of Directors to personally contribute to the program and empower girls in our community. Sherry shared the following about her involvement with Girls on the Run: “Swedish provides sponsorship to a large number of community-based organizations that do good in our community. But when it comes to giving my personal time I am willing to invest in GOTR because this organization is passionate about giving girls the tools to be successful and to use their hearts, minds and bodies to grow and believe in themselves.”

During her tenure on the Board, Sherry has been an integral part of our Diversity & Inclusion Taskforce and works diligently to ensure that all girls in King County have access to messages of empowerment and self-confidence. In addition, she’s been a Running Buddy, a member of our (very!) early morning 5k event set-up team, and also (wo)mans the Swedish booth at the 5k.

We are so grateful to Sherry for her years of contribution to Girls on the Run, both personally and professionally. Stop by the Swedish booth at the 5k to say hi and give Sherry an energy award!
