I couldn’t be more excited to begin my time here at Girls on the Run of Puget Sound! My involvement with Girls on the Run began 5 years ago as an intern for GOTR Northwest Washington Council in Bellingham. And since then, I haven’t been able to get GOTR out of my mind! I learned so much in my time as both an intern and a coach and have been looking for opportunities to stay involved ever since!
I grew up in the greater Seattle area, so being able to work with my “home” council is a real joy. With a background in Human Services, I’m passionate about serving our communities and youth in particular. I strongly believe that individuals can thrive when given the right opportunities, resources, and environment. And I can’t wait to serve the girls in our program with that philosophy as my driving force.
GOTR is such an inspiration to me. As someone who was involved in sports as a kid, and in more recent years as a runner, I have witnessed the power of physical activity to inspire and promote self-confidence. Last September I ran my first half marathon. From going through ups and downs of training to being sick on race day, I went through it all. I am confident that the support of my family, friends and other runners got me through it all the challenges. Their encouragement allowed me to push myself in healthy ways & gave me so much confidence in my own potential. I truly believe that GOTR participants gain a similar confidence, which is incredibly important early on in life.
Growing up, I was also lucky to have supportive mentors and coaches there to be by my side to get me through tough times. It has always been a goal of mine to be able to pay it forward to other girls and I couldn’t be happier that I get to do that with GOTR. The girls themselves, the coaches, subs, running buddies, teachers, parents and community members who support our girls inspire hope, courage, challenge and achievement. Unlocking potential for young girls is one of the most powerful things we can do, and I am thrilled I get to be a part of that!
I am so looking forward to learning and growing with Girls on the Run of Puget Sound, and can’t wait to meet more of YOU who are involved as well!
