Our May Girl Hero is Swedish Medical Center!
Our Girl Hero this month is our longtime partner, Swedish Medical Center! Beginning in 2010, Swedish has provided scholarships to offset the cost of registration fees for participants in our Tukwila and Highline districts, and this year, Swedish generously expanded their support of Girls on the Run to provide scholarships to schools throughout King County. Thanks to this incredible partnership, we have been able to serve approximately 288 girls on full scholarship (that’s 19 teams!). In addition to providing scholarships, Swedish has also hosted multiple GOTR coach trainings and is always a friendly and fun presence at our 5k events. We are so grateful to Swedish for working to supporting our community in so many ways!
What’s next for our partnership? This spring, Swedish Medical Center and Girls on the Run teamed up with SQORD Activity Band to promote physical activity while building a healthier community together. SQORD makes play more entertaining, social and fun with the use of an activity band and accelerometer that tracks everyday activity and allows the kids, parents, teachers and family members see the number of points of physical activity. More about our pilot program coming soon!
