August Girl Hero: Chelsea Jander

Goodbye to our Super Girl Hero, Chelsea Jander!

Chelsea (Hodgson) Jander is our Super Girl Hero of the Month! We have so much to thank her for as she completes two years of AmeriCorps/VISTA service at Girls on the Run of Puget Sound. Her role was to help build structure and processes which would help sustain GOTRPS for many years.  During her time with us, we’ve grown from 170 to 750 girls participating in our program per year.  She has helped us develop a new plan for evaluating our program to insure we have a balance of economic diversity among our sites.  As staff liason to our No Sweat Auction Event, which brings in funds to help support scholarships for girls in our program, Chelsea helped increase our auction revenues by 73%.

Chelsea also developed plans for recruiting, training and supporting our Running Buddies volunteers, whose numbers have increased with the number of girls we serve and is now at 750 per year!  She has served as a coach in our program, a coach’s trainer, an excellent evaluator of our program’s quality and as an inspirational resource to our coaches.

Words are simply not enough to express our gratitude to Chelsea for all she has done to build and sustain our program over the last two years.  We are so going to miss her and the fun she brings to our office, projects, committees and volunteers, but we wish her well in her new endeavors as she moves on to the next big Chelsea Adventure. Thanks so much, Chelsea, from the staff, board, volunteers… but mostly from the many girls who have been able to participate in our program over the past two years (1,200 to be exact)! If you would like to send her a farewell note, please do so by September 1st at chelsea@girlsrun.org.

We are excited to welcome Anna Fleming as our new Administrative Coordinator! GOTRPS is excited to have Anna on board to help coordinate many projects which will help to insure the quality of our program. She will also be this season’s Running Buddy Coordinator. Welcome to the GOTRPS team, Anna!
