Girls on the Run of Puget Sound to partner with Sounders Women
Friends of GOTR receive free entry to May 16 match
SEATTLE – Girls on the Run of Puget Sound today announced a new partnership with the Seattle Sounders Women that will seek to advance the two organizations’ shared goals to promote health and confidence in girls of all ages through running, team work and fitness activities.
The organizations will kick off the partnership at the Girls on the Run Spring 5k on Saturday, May 10, where more than 550 third- through fifth-grade girls will run a 5k as the culmination of a 10-week after school program that uses running and an interactive curriculum to teach young girls to become independent thinkers, enhance their problem solving skills and make healthy decisions.
The Sounders Women, the future of women’s soccer, will join the GOTR Spring 5k to inspire runners, meet participants and even take to the course alongside the girls in the 5k. Following the race, the Sounders will mingle with runners, cheer the finishers, and lead healthy activities during the post-5k celebration.
“We are thrilled to have the Sounders Women join us at the 5k,” said Girls on the Run of Puget Sound Executive Director Kerin Brasch. “They set an inspiring example for our girls not only on the role of health and fitness, but most importantly to go after their dreams and achieve their limitless potential.”
Following the 5k, participants and volunteers from Girls on the Run are invited to attend a Sounders Women match on Friday, May 16 at 7 p.m. as the women take on the Vancouver Whitecaps. Anyone who wears this season’s turquoise Girls on the Run t-shirt to the match will receive free entry.
Sounders Women Executive Director, Jon Billings said, “This is a win-win partnership. We’re excited to add to this great event, and most importantly build the occasion for hundreds of young girls. Then we get to show off what a healthy young woman can achieve as these kids come to watch the Sounders Women on the field on May 16.”

“As our club is branded the future of women’s soccer, we can’t wait to help with future projects to benefit the future of young women in our community. We’re pleased to work with Girls on the Run of Puget Sound for this like-minded goal,” added Jon Billings.
The Seattle Sounders Women was founded in 2001 and has been a catalyst for hundreds of young women to compete at the highest levels of amateur and professional soccer.
